A Lotto luck as Briton scoops £148million EuroMillions jackpot

A lucky Briton has claimed a £148million EuroMillions jackpot – continuing an extraordinary run of good luck for the country’s lottery players.

Friday’s anonymous winner becomes the seventh person from Britain to claim the top prize in 2012 alone.

They will pocket the second largest Euro-Millions jackpot, about £13million shy of the winnings claimed by Colin and Christine Weir from North Ayrshire.

Another six British players are also celebrating after each picking up almost £2million, which was Friday’s consolatory second prize.

‘It’s amazing to have another big Euro-Millions win in the UK – the seventh jackpot to be won here this year,’ said a National Lottery spokesman.

‘We are looking forward to welcoming the ticket holder into our millionaires club, joining the 2,900 millionaires created by the National Lottery to date.’

Out of the nine nations which play EuroMillions, the most money is spent in Britain, France, Spain and Portugal and the proportion of winners roughly correlates to where tickets are bought.
