THE GOVERNMENT has dismissed speculations that the Filipino-led protests in the Chinese embassies worldwide would set back ongoing negotiations on the Scarborough Shoal incident.
"The protests are all initiatives from private citizens. This should not affect the negotiation on the Panatag Shoal incident," Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said through text message on Friday.
Various activist groups reportedly declared to hold on May 11 demonstrations outside Chinese embassies based in other countries, in protest of its alleged "bullying" in the Scarborough Shoal issue.
The standoff between Chinese and Philippine government and fishing vessels in the shoal remains unresolved since it started early April this year.
