SAN MIGUEL Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Eduardo M. Cojuangco, Jr. has sold an 11% stake in the company to President and Chief Operating Officer Ramon S. Ang, the firm said on Friday.
In a statement, San Miguel said Mr. Cojuangco, by way of a block share sale transaction, sold roughly 500 million shares worth an estimated P40 billion at P75 apiece.
The firm said the shares had been previously offered under a purchase option to Top Frontier Investment Holdings, Inc. - a group controlled by former Trade Minister Roberto V. Ongpin and San Miguel's largest single voting bloc - but Top Frontier decided to only partly take up the offer.
"Mr. Cojuangco offered the balance of the option shares to me and I accepted primarily for the following reasons: the San Miguel vision set by management during my term is far from being achieved ... [and] a continuing commitment to [Mr. Cojuangco], the company's stakeholders and the employees to see through the realization of this vision in the near future," Mr. Ang said.
