The Supreme Court (SC) is expected to tackle in its full court session today former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s P366-million plunder case and the petition to nullify the Commission on Elections’ (Comelec’s) accommodation of the Statements of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) submitted beyond the June 8 deadline.
This morning, the petitions filed by Arroyo’s camp on the plunder case involving funds of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) pending with the Sandiganbayan is on the agenda.
It was not known if the SC would hand down its ruling but sources said the justices to whom the petitions were assigned by raffle have prepared their draft decisions.
Arroyo, now a congresswoman of Pampanga, elevated to the SC three issues involving her plunder case. These are the denial to post bail; determination of probable cause; and demurer to evidence.
In a motion filed last week, Mrs. Arroyo pleaded the SC to resolve immediately her petition that would dismiss her plunder case through a demurer (objection) to evidence.
She pointed out the need to now resolve her case after the Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) recently started investigation on a new complaint for plunder and malversation of public funds also in connection with the PCSO funds from 2004 to 2007.
She reminded the SC that she has been detained since October, 2012.
