Millions of Canadians are dreaming of financial freedom if their numbers hit on Friday's LOTTO MAX draw, featuring an estimated $64 million in cash prizes up for grabs.

Friday's LOTTO MAX features a $50 million grand prize and an estimated 14 "Maxmillions" draws for $1 million each.

Business was steady at lottery kiosks around Chatham on Thursday, but lottery retailers said the action will pick up on Friday, before the 9 p.m. ticket deadline.

Wilda Howe, who operates the Canadian National Institute for the Blind lottery booth at the Chatham Zellers store, said, some people "leave it to the last minute."

Linda Duquette, who operates the CNIB lottery booth at Wal-Mart, said when there is a chance to win $50 million it does generate more business.

She said her regulars go from purchasing a one-line ticket for $5, plus an Encore for $1, to buying an extra line and invest $11.

Jack Nelmes of Chatham spent $21 for four lines and an Encore for Friday's draw, up from the $6 he typically spends to buy a single line with Encore.

If it beats the incredible odds and wins the grand prize, Nelmes said, "at this point in life, I don't know what I'd do with the money."

He said he would definitely share it with family.

It is not uncommon for the LOTTO MAX grand prize to reach $50 million and stay there for a number of weeks.
