ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Zamboanga City Health Office has recorded 16 fatalities for dengue hemorrhagic fever from January 1 to September 11 this year.
Dr. Rodelin Agbulos, city health officer, said the latest fatality of dengue fever, a mosquito-borne disease, was a seven-year-old boy, who died on Friday.
The boy is from Barangay Sinunuc, 9.3 kilometers west of city hall.
However, Agbulos said the number of fatalities as well as the registered cases of dengue this year is still way below compared to the cases recorded last year.
Agbulos said 180 dengue cases were registered for the month of August this year as compared to the over 300 cases registered during the same period last year.
Nevertheless, Agbulos said his office continues to intensify awareness campaign on the control and prevention of dengue.
He said these advocacies include information drives as well as cleanliness activities in the barangays.
He likewise called on all residents to maintain cleanliness and sanitation, especially eliminating all dengue-mosquito breeding areas, to prevent dengue cases.
