MANILA (UPDATED) - The camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay lashed back at Malacañang on Saturday for supposedly choosing to be "petty" by raising the issue of him being the only vice president in history with his own official residence.
"Vice President Jejomar C. Binay has raised substantive issues but Malacañang chose to be petty instead by raising the issue of the Coconut Palace. Sadly, they don't have the complete facts," said Joey Salgado, head of the Office of the Vice President's media affairs division.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda on Friday criticized Binay for supposedly trying to portray an "underdog image," which, he said, is a "gross misrepresentation."
He noted that Binay "is the only Vice President in Philippine history who was given an official residence by a sitting President."
He added that it was Binay himself who requested to serve as Presidential Adviser on Overseas Filipino Workers' (OFW) Concerns after he had already been appointed chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), and President Aquino acceded.
