MANILA, Philippines – The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) joined the nation in mourning the death of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo.
In a statement, Governor Mujiv Hataman said the ARMM is sympathizing with “the Filipino people as the nation mourns today the untimely demise of Secretary Jesse Robredo, indeed a deep sense of loss to all of us.”
Hataman said in Robredo’s two years as Interior secretary, he had been part of the reform agenda that is being implemented in the ARMM.
“ARMM and the country's Muslim populace have so much to be grateful for to him, his beloved family and to President Benigno S. Aquino III for appointing him at the helm of the local government units,” Hataman said.
“Me, my family and the officialdom of the ARMM mourn with Atty. Leni Robredo and their children over his untimely demise. Sec. Jesse's efforts and the examples he had set in local government returns decency in governance and will be marked forever in the history of Philippine democracy,” he added.
Robredo's body was recovered off the coast of Masbate City Tuesday morning.
Employees of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-ARMM gathered for an interfaith prayer led by an Imam.
