Scots lotto millionaires spend tens of thousands on Murray's tennis racquet

THE £27,000 spent on the racquet is the latest sporting investment from Christine and Colin Weir.

LOTTO winner Christine Weir yesterday splashed out £27,000 for the tennis racquet used by Andy Murray at the Olympics.

The racquet – which came with a signed bag and ball from Andy’s gold medal-winning final against Roger Federer – was sold at a charity auction in Edinburgh in aid of The Prince’s Trust.

Christine and husband Colin have invested huge sums of money into Scottish sport since winning the Euromillions jackpot last year.

Christine, from Largs in Ayrshire, also spent £12,000 of her £161million fortune on a wine trip to Bordeaux in France.

Around £265,000 was raised at the annual Lunch With An Old Bag event. Other auction items included a private dinner for 10 on the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Singer and actor Jason Donovan entertained guests. He said: “I was delighted to be asked to perform. The Prince’s Trust does fantastic work in helping young people overcoming difficult issues to make themselves a success.
