A Lady Lake man has come forward to claim a $4 million jackpot in the Florida Lotto, lottery officials announced this afternoon.

Richard Kennedy, the sole winner of the May 23 lottery drawing, opted for a lump-sum payment of $2,842,868.94.

"It could not have come at a better time," Kennedy said. But he did not want to elaborate during a phone interview.

Kennedy, who's retired, had purchased $1 lottery tickets every week for about a year. He'd stop in to buy a soda and ask for a Lotto ticket, he said.

"I didn't even choose the numbers," Kennedy, 76, said. The Quick Pick machine selected the winning numbers: 5-6-9-23-30-41. The winning ticket came from the Circle K on LaGrande Boulevard in Lady Lake.

The Circle K received a $20,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket, Florida Lottery officials said.

Kennedy doesn't have plans for the jackpot yet. He said he has to discuss with his wife what to do with the money and how they'll share it with their two sons and four grandchildren, who all live out of state.

"We're both stoic people. Obviously, we're very glad. But we're not going to go out and say 'Let's buy an RV," he said.

Lottery officials said it's the 15th jackpot win in Lake County since 1988.
