Vice President Jejomar Binay on Friday said the freeze order issued by the Court of Appeals covering his bank accounts and those of his family members and friends creates a chilling effect on businesses.
In a speech during the National Conference of Employers, Binay expressed hope the attendees, mostly owners and officials of different companies, will not be summoned by the Senate subcommittee and other agencies just because of association with him.
"I hope that you will not receive invitation from the Senate subcommittee and be investigated by the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) solely on the basis that you are in the same room as Binay or simply because you are my friend or associate," he said.
Binay even joked that an official of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) might be investigated by AMLC because the latter mistakenly called him as "His Excellency, President..."
"Patay ka sa AMLC," said the Vice President at the start of his speech.
