The captain of Barangay 39 in Bacolod City is asking for the city government to accelerate the processing of funds to be given to the fire victims.
Brgy. captain Dante Danoy, said the residents need urgent financial help to buy materials so they can immediately start rebuilding their houses, that were hit by fire Tuesday.
The evacuees can stay at the Blessed Carmen Salles School for only five to seven days.
Some victims have started putting up makeshift houses from materials taken from the wreckages of their former homes.
Acting Bacolod Mayor Greg Gasataya said he suggested an increase to the financial assistance of the city to the victims and that P10,000 will be added to those whose houses were destroyed, instead of P5,000.
For damaged houses, the families will get P5,000 instead of P3,000, and from P2,000 to P3,000 for sharers, and P1,000 for boarders, Gasataya said. He added that the proposal for the funds is expected to be ready for approval today.
He said they do not need to wait for the P1 million disaster funds as the needed requirements would take time. The city has funds from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office that it can use, he added.
