FORMER president and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has gone into another life-threatening emergency after choking on a piece of broccoli stem.
She was taken to the emergency room of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center, where she is under hospital arrest for alleged misuse of the P366-million confidential and intelligence fund of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
In a Sept. 15 medical abstract, Dr. Martha Nucum, medical team head, said Arroyo was rushed to the emergency room on Sept. 2 at 12:30 p.m.
She complained of coughing, hoarseness and difficulty in breathing after she choked on her food while having lunch in her room.
A flexible naso-pharyngo-laryngo-endoscope inserted under anesthesia showed a food particle was lodged in her pyriform sinus.
But after forceful coughing, “she vomited the food particle”, a piece of broccoli stem, said the abstract.
