The Manila Police District (MPD) arrested a 49-year-old buy-and-sell agent for allegedly extorting money in exchange for a guarantee letter from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) last Wednesday.
Police identified the suspect as Gina Reyes of 1005 Tayabas St., Tondo, Manila.
The MPD General Assignment Investigation Section (GAIS) reported that the suspect was apprehended at around 1:30 p.m. in an entrapment operation in a popular coffee shop inside SM San Lazaro on Lacson Extension, Manila.
Police said the suspect allegedly offered her services to the complainant, Hazel Alicante, whose mother was confined at the Metropolitan Hospital in Tondo last July 22.
Reyes claimed that she has enough connections at the PCSO that could help Alicante obtain a guarantee letter that would help shoulder the hospital bills.
The suspect asked the complainant to give her R3,000 to facilitate the processing of the guarantee letter. Reyes met Alicante again and asked for another P4,000.
