THEY don't do things in half measures in the country.
The small town of Wee Waa in northwest NSW, population 2000, prides itself on being Australia’s cotton capital.
But earlier this year the region was hit by major flooding that destroyed crops, levee banks and local infrastructure.
The cash strapped locals decided that if they were to run a fundraiser it better be something that sparks interest.
Enter one helicopter pilot and chopper, and literally hundreds of numbered golf balls, in a country version of Lotto.
Locals paid $5 for each numbered golf ball which the hovering chopper dropped onto a green at the local country club in the hope that one ball would find the hole.
It didn’t quite go to plan. No one bagged a hole in one so it was a case of nearest the pin.
There wasn’t a million dollars at stake, just $1000 with the local butcher taking the prize.
As the for the tiny town's fundraiser, they raked in $10,000 in one afternoon.
