The plan by former Marine Captain Nicanor Faeldon to mount a supposed "patriotic voyage" to the disputed Panatag (Scarborough) Shoal has prompted China to go on "high alert" in the area.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei also said the "Philippine side" should stop such "irresponsible remarks and inciting radical behaviors."
"(We will) remain on high alert over the island to prevent any provocative behavior," he said in a news item posted early Saturday on the Chinese government's web portal.
Faeldon earlier planned a "patriotic voyage" to the disputed shoal using a rented boat.
