Palace on House probe: Let ax fall where it may

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang will not stand in the way of the House of Representatives’ investigation into the Jan. 25 Mamasapano incident and will let the ax fall where it may.
“Let the House complete its inquiry and present its report so the people may know their findings and conclusions. Together with the other completed reports from the BOI (Board of Inquiry), Senate, IMT (International Monitoring Team) and MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front), these reports provide a body of relevant information that may be helpful in establishing accountability and identifying valuable lessons that may bring about reforms,” Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said yesterday.
Last week, presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said President Aquino had answered the questions on the Mamasapano incident but that the Palace would cooperate with the House investigation.
But he said the House must be mindful of the separation of powers and respect among the three co-equal branches of government.
Upon the resumption of its investigation, the chamber had decided not to send questions to the Palace or the President. The Palace said it was the prerogative of the House to do away with the questioning and that it would be up to members to proceed with the investigation without compelling the President to appear or answer the questions in written form.
