MANILA - The Department of Health warns of a spike in cases of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Corona virus or MERS-CoV.
Acting Health Secretary Janette Garin said that in 2014, there was a surge in MERS-CoV cases in the Middle East in the period between February and April.
"It has something to do with the camels breeding, being transported
this season allows more exposure to camels," she said.
"In the case of MERS-CoV, what happened was before it was animal to human transmission. What we have now is human to human transmission especially among health workers," she added.
Garin said health officials already met with other government agencies to help contain the spread of the virus.
She said there could be a surge in the number of cases, with more Filipino workers in the Middle East expected to come home for the graduation season and the Holy Week break.
