AN administration ally on Tuesday said that their colleagues, who are facing charges for their alleged involvement in the P10-billion pork-barrel scam, will not get any help from the House of Representatives.
National Unity Party Rep. Elpidio Barzaga of Cavite said that the House leadership has adopted a hands-off policy on all criminal cases that had involved its members, citing the case of former president and current Pampanga Second District Rep. Gloria Arroyo who never received any special consideration from her colleagues.
The former chief executive is currently under hospital-arrest and detained inside the presidential suite of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City due the plunder charges she is currently facing for the alleged malversation of some P366-million funds from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
“If Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. cannot take custody of former President GMA [Arroyo] in order to fulfill her duties as a member of the House of Representatives, then, by parity reasoning, senators who are also facing plunder cases could not be placed, likewise, under the custody of the Senate,” Barzaga said.
