P.W.D. Voters

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) wants local government units (LGUs) to call on Persons With Disabilities (PWD) and encourage them to register and vote. “In line with the thrust of the Philippine government to make the rights of PWDs real, a Special Voters Registration for PWDs, spearheaded by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is currently being conducted," said DILG Secretary Jesse M. Robredo. “The activity aims to encourage thousands of PWDs to register and update their records at the local Comelec offices. This will also provide avenue for the PWDs to practice their right to vote and be heard during election,” said Robredo. (Czarina Nicole O. Ong)

Seniors’ Assistance

The Caloocan City government continues to provide assistance to senior citizens in recognition of their contribution to society, a City Hall official said. Various projects implemented by the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs have benefited 100,000 senior citizens residing in Caloocan. The Caloocan OSCA established a Christian Community Center where senior citizens hold weekly Bible studies. The Caloocan City Health Office also provides free medical services to the senior citizens. “Without their guidance and tutelage, we would not be here today. It’s time to give back to our elderly by showing them our love and recognition,” said Mayor Enrico Echiverri said. For instance, the OSCA under the administration of Mayor Enrico Echiverri was able to establish a Christian Community which gives its members the opportunity conduct Bible studies once a week and share experiences with one another.
